DPD RI Chairman Responds to The Constitutional Court Decision: Must be Adhered to by All Parties and Let’s All Take Lessons From This

SURABAYA – The Constitutional Court (MK) of Indonesia on Monday (22/4) read out its verdict on the dispute over the results (PHPU) of the 2024 Presidential Election.

In its verdict, MK rejected all requests from presidential and vice presidential candidate pair number 1, Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, and number 3, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD.

This means that presidential and vice presidential candidate pair number 2, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, is the winner of the election.

Responding to the decision, Chairman of Indonesian Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) AA LaNyalla Mahmud Mattalitti asked the disputing parties to obey the court’s decision which was final and binding.

He also asked supporters and the public to accept the decision gracefully.

“The parties already know that the decision is final and binding, so I hope they are also consistent with what has been taken at MK,” he said.

“And I hope we all end this dispute process by returning to carry out the next national and state agenda. Because Indonesia must continue,” he added.

Furthermore, LaNyalla invited political elites and all elements of society to maintain unity and integrity, while taking lessons from all the processes of statehood in Indonesia.

This includes reflecting on the state system since the reform era that has adopted a direct democracy system, which is actually based on Pancasila, especially the fourth principle.

“Let’s forget the disputes, get back together, join hands, and work together to continue the development of this country. At the same time, let us contemplate and reflect on nationality, especially on the state system, since Indonesia’s challenges in the future are getting tougher, especially with the threat of technological and environmental disruption due to global warming,” he said.

The disruption, LaNyalla continued, must be addressed with a spirit of togetherness, gotong royong, and in strong national ties, all of which are in Pancasila.

Those things, in contrast, do not exist in liberal values characterized by individualism and materialism.

To the winners of the 2024 Presidential Election, Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, LaNyalla hopes that both of them can embrace all parties and become president for all Indonesian people.

“Hopefully the new President and Vice President can bring progress to Indonesia, can develop Indonesia, and be able to respond to the aspirations of various levels of society,” he said.

As is known, the Constitutional Court heard the PHPU 2024 case from 27 March to 5 April 2024, which was filed by presidential-vice presidential candidate pair number 1 Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and number 3 Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD.

Both pairs argued that there had been structured, systematic, and massive electoral fraud, so they asked the Constitutional Court to cancel the victory of presidential candidate number 2 Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
