JAKARTA – In a collaboration with the World Bank, the central government provides training for village officials in the Strengthening Village Governance and Development Programme (P3PD).
Inspector General of the Ministry of Home Affairs Tomsi Tohir said that this training is the most massive of its kind since Indonesia’s independence.
“There has only been one massive training like this, this is for a noble cause … since Indonesia’s independence, only this one now,” he said when opening a coordination meeting on the evaluation of village apparatus training at Merlin Park Hotel, Jakarta, Wednesday (13/12) evening.
Tomsi said the training programme is a manifestation of President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) nawacita, building Indonesia from the periphery. “The periphery is the village,” he said.
He also explained that, through the training of village officials, the community will be well served by the leadership of the village head and their apparatus.
As a forefront, the village also helps the community with family welfare, for example through the PKK, Posyandu, and so on.
In addition, the village should have its own source of income, so that its economy can gradually develop through an official Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes).
“In developed villages, residents do not need to urbanize. With the income of BUMDes, the village economy can grow and make its residents prosperous,” he explained.
As explained by the Secretary of the Directorate General of Village Development Paudah earlier, out of 131,610 targeted participants, 121,620 participants were realized.
Meanwhile, out of a total of 33,458 targeted villages, 31,923 villages from 33 provinces were realized.
Encouragingly, the average realization of training by province was above 95 percent, with three provinces even achieving 100 percent realization.
The three provinces are Riau Islands (Kepri), Bali, and North Sulawesi.
