MAKASSAR – Makassar City Government held a ceremony commemorating the 78th Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
The raising of the Saka Merah Putih took place at the Anjungan City of Makassar, Thursday (17/8).
At the commemoration, the government raised a special theme “Potpourri of Independence from Makassar for Indonesia”.
This theme is in line with the theme of the 78th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia in general, “Terus Melaju untuk Indonesia Maju (Keep Moving Forward for Indonesia)”.
The Mayor of Makassar Moh. Ramdhan Pomanto said that he chose the theme of the potpourri because it has a deep meaning.
As a symbol of independence, potpourri has 3 meanings.
First, the roots depicted with 78 flags each 35 meters long on the ground symbolize the roots of the struggle of the nation’s heroes for 78 years.
Second, the stem which is depicted with 2 flags spanning 78 meters in the sea symbolizes Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution which were the ideology and basis of the state during the 78 years of Indonesia’s independence.
Third, the 5 flowers symbolize the flower of independence that is being enjoyed by all Indonesian people to this day, which originates from the 5 flowers of the Pancasila precepts which have made Indonesia a highly respected country throughout the world with increasingly prosperous people.
“We, the Government of Makassar City, commemorate this historic moment. It must be meaningful and in line with the center which continues to reflect the spirit of the Indonesian Nation, to continue to develop and collaborate together. The Potpourri of Independence from Makassar for Indonesia,” he said.
The atmosphere of potpourri was felt directly by the thousands of attendees who packed the Anjungan Losari City of Makassar.
Starting from the ranks of Makassar City Government officials, leaders and members of the Makassar DPRD, to communication forums and other regional leaders (forkopimda).
Not to forget, the former Mayor of Makassar and Secretary of Makassar City were also present.
On the same occasion, Danny Pomanto also conveyed several strategic programs for the City of Makassar which are the answers to world problems.
Some of them are Lorong Wisata, Jagai Anakta, strengthening people’s faith, Sombere, Smart City, and many other innovations that he initiated to realize the Acceleration of Makassar as a “Sombere and Smart City” World City with strong immunity for all.
“I also express my gratitude to various parties who have worked hand in hand to build the city of Makassar which has grown very well. So that it has become a model for various regions,” he said.
He also left a message to the nation’s next generation to continue to wake up at every step and every action in making many positive changes.
“Inflame the spirit of fight, let’s continue to unite steps, maximize self-potential, foster a sense of nationality, as a form of dedication to Indonesia and all elements of the nation, synergize with each other, so that Indonesia will always prosper,” concluded Danny.
