THE EDITOR – Rector of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Professor Ova Emilia believes the elected Chairman of the Central Board of UGM Alumni Family (PP Kagama) Basuki Hadimuljono will unite UGM alumni and provide greater benefits for Indonesia.
This was conveyed by Professor Ova on the sidelines of the Kagama XIV National Conference which took place on Saturday (16/11) at the Mercure Convention Centre Ancol Hotel, Jakarta.
“This is a special 5-year meeting where there is a change of management. As we know, the chairman of Kagama for the last two terms was Mr. Ganjar (Pranowo). So there has to be a new figure who can make Kagama useful for the country,” Professor Ova told The Editor on Saturday (16/2024).
For the record, Basuki Hadimuljono, Head of IKN (National Capital City) Authority, was elected as Chairman of PP Kagama through the Kagama XIV National Conference.
He officially replaced former Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo who had held the same position for two terms or 10 years.
The election of the Chairman of PP Kagama is conducted every 5 years. In his fiery speech, Basuki said he was ready to devote himself and return the favor to UGM.
“I think this is my chance to stay in touch with Gadjah Mada alumni. My family is a Kagama family. Three of my children and all my children-in-law graduated from Gadjah Mada University. Now, I want to give back something and devote the rest of my life to Gadjah Mada,” he said.
BASUKI HADIMULJONO WILL BRING A FRESH AIR TO KAGAMA
In a separate interview, Chairman of KAGAMA North Sumatra Regional Board (Pengda) Rehna Maba Mulianta Sitepu said that Basuki Hadimuljono leadership era will provide fresh air for Kagama.
This is because he is a very senior figure that will make it easier for UGM alumni to learn new things, especially his career that is clean from corruption while serving as a minister for 10 years in the era of President Joko Widodo.
“He (Basuki) did great for two periods,” she said.
For this national conference, Rehna brought a team of Pengda Kagama administrators from North Sumatra to Jakarta. The aim is to give support to the elected chairman of PP Kagama.
She hoped Kagama would remain a common home for all UGM alumni and keep UGM away from political frictions.
After the conference, Rehna said there will be more activities that will be carried out by the North Sumatra Regional Board of Kagama related to community service. “His (Basuki) work will also affect us in the region, outside Java,” said Rehna.
GANJAR PRANOWO IS VERY PERSISTENT AND MILITANT
Rehna also appreciated former Chairman of PP Kagama Ganjar Pranowo who, according to her, was very persistent, militant, and able to encourage Kagama in the regions during his two terms in office.
“He was able to lighten the atmosphere and did not discriminate against anyone. He has a great nationalism and provides support for those of us in the regions,” he said.
Budi Siswoyo, Secretary of North Sumatra Kagama, said that the management of Kagama during the previous two periods in the hands of Ganjar Pranowo was very good. He hopes the same will happen in Basuki Hadimuljono’s era.
He said that Ganjar Pranowo has given great attention to Kagama North Sumatra.
“With a membership of almost 1,250 UGM alumni spread across North Sumatra, our voices were heard nationally. We are quite active outside Java, so hopefully this can be considered by Mr. Basuki,” he concluded.
