BENGKULU – The Vice Chairman of The House of Regional Representatives of Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) Sultan B. Najamudin appreciates the commitment of Vice President of Indonesia, Ma’ruf Amin, in persuading the community to consume bananas as a substitute for rice in each daily serving.
“We should welcome Mr. Ma’ruf’s recommendation to have a more qualified and balanced consumption patterns. As a leader, he gives a good example on how to overcome the food crisis by encouraging food diversification,” said Sultan through his official statement on Friday (1/4).
According to him, Vice Ma’ruf Amin’s recommendation is a highly recommended diet by nutritionists.
Also, it is very important for the community to use other food than rice as a staple food in their daily lives.
“For those who understand the importance of healthy living, this is a common healthy lifestyle. As the leader, Kyai Ma’ruf has given good advice to the community,” he said.
This former Vice Governor of Bengkulu also suggested to promote the food diversification as a national movement.
Our food products are very diverse in each region and also rich with their nutritional content, we just need to process it better using the latest processing technology.
Sultan further explained that, as a country with a high level of public consumption, Indonesia needs to have an independent food product diversification.
Local food, processed with a suitable modern management system, in the long term will change people’s consumption patterns and tastes.
“Both central and regional governments need the right strategy and policy to shift their eating habits from rice to other food. We should reduce people’s dependence on rice and solve this food crisis with a food fulfillment approach done by the community,” he concluded.
Vice President Ma’ruf Amin’s statement on bananas as a substitute for rice was revealed while participating in the Cavendish banana harvest event in Pulung Village, Ponorogo Regency, East Java, in the context of an export-oriented horticulture development program, on Wednesday (30/3).
According to the Vice President, eating two bananas is equivalent to eating one serving of rice weighing 100 grams.
“Eating two bananas is like eating one serving of rice. It is quite filling, so we don’t need to eat rice,” said Ma’ruf as quoted from the video caption, Wednesday.
