BENGKULU – Vice chairman of The House of Regional Representatives of Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI), Sultan B Najamudin through the Halal Product Assurance Management Agency (BPJPH) Ministry of Religion, requested the government to redesign the Halal logo which will be simply and normally labelled on halal product’s logo.

This concern was conveyed during his response toward the Halal logo along with the challenging calligraphy motif in the form of a wayang mountain, recently released by the BPJPH of the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia.

“The Halal logo is an important information shown on each food product, cosmetic, medicine and other processed products which is commonly noticed by the community, especially the Moslems. Don’t let the society be confused with such challenging form of Halal logo,” said Sultan through his official statement on Monday (14/3).

According to him, as a country with such a large scale of industrial potential of halal product market, referring to the world’s halal industry, Indonesia must become a symbol of the ecosystem. At this point, Halal logo is a public recognized brand image in meeting the needs and interests of the global market, on the contrary, not to priorate the local side and local culture.

“They are to disregard the spirit of rebranding the Halal logo, just because they wanted to negate the earlier image of the previous institution of halal product certification. The most important thing is the informative benefit of halal products,” emphasized this former chairman of HIPMI Bengkulu.

Therefore, Sultan continued, we requested BPJPH to welcome the current suggestions and critics from the community to revise the new Halal logo. Applying the Arabic letters for normal halal logos to avoid any misinterpretation and confusion in the community.

“Ensuring each product to be well acknowledged with the pillars and conditions of halal, BPJPH plays a big and crucial role and responsibility. Especially for the UMKM by preparing proper human resources and halal certification infrastructure in each region,” he concluded.
