JAKARTA – Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Abdullah Azwar Anas discusses the establishment of an asset recovery agency.
The discussion held with Attorney General ST Burhanuddin also discussed the Centre for the Implementation of Judicial Health at the Prosecutor’s Office.
The urgency of establishing this asset recovery agency is related to the large amount of evidence resulting from crimes handled by the Adhyaksa Corps.
“Because a lot of assets that have become evidence are difficult to handle. As there are so many, and they are in many places, this will certainly save the assets that have been confiscated by the prosecutor’s office,” explained Minister Anas after a meeting with the Attorney General at the Attorney General’s Office (AGO), Thursday (23/11).
The meeting is a form of support from the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform in institutional strengthening and organizational development of the AGO.
Previously, the Attorney General had also visited the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform.
Minister Anas is optimistic that if this body is strengthened, the AGO will be more optimal in the law enforcement process, especially those related to saving state assets.
By 2022, the Indonesian Attorney General’s Office’s Asset Recovery Centre had recovered Rp2.04 trillion in state losses.
The upgrading of the status of the Asset Recovery Agency from the previous Asset Recovery Centre, according to the Attorney General’s Office, is also expected to overcome long bureaucratic obstacles.
Thus, data and information exchange and communication become more effective, even at the international level.
The Prosecutor’s Office has been institutionally attached to the main tasks, functions, and authorities in the law enforcement function.
Starting from the investigation to the execution process, namely conducting asset tracing, asset recovery, so that the seized assets can be more useful and increase Non-Tax State Revenue (NTSR).
The Attorney General hopes that the AGO will be able to manage the confiscated assets by involving related institutions in the law enforcement process.
The goal is none other than to save and recover state assets.
ST Burhanuddin explained that this body is different from the Asset Forfeiture Bill.
This body is specifically established in the Public Prosecution Service for the duties and activities of the Public Prosecution Service, especially in execution.
“Through the establishment of the Asset Recovery Agency, it will be more adaptive and coordinated regarding assets that have permanent legal force (inkracht),” he said.
“Thus, these assets can be immediately auctioned or utilized by the state, including strengthening the collaboration of government agencies and SOEs/ROEs to save state assets,” the Attorney General concluded.
