JAKARTA – Approaching the Eid al-Adha, Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian appealed to ministries/agencies and local governments (Pemda) to be aware of changes in the patterns of demand for goods and services that occur in the society.
He asked the Pemda to keep monitoring the prices of goods and services in their respective regions.
“We will face a big day, Eid al-Adha on June 28 or 29, 9 or 10 days. This will definitely change demand patterns, so that it will also change the price of goods and services,” Tito said while chairing the Regional Inflation Control Coordination Meeting at the Sasana Bhakti Praja Building, Ministry of Home Affairs Headquarters, Monday (19/6).
“That’s why we need to anticipate, especially this Eid Al-Adha, so that prices and services remain stable,” he added.
When it’s judged by the contributors to the inflation rate, Tito continued, the consumption pattern of Eid Al-Fitr is still considered higher than Eid al-Adha.
In fact, based on experience, the price of chilies and shallots is still the contributor to inflation at the Eid al-Adha celebration.
“Experiences of the past years showed that the ones that contributed to inflation during the Eid al-Adha celebrations were chilies and shallots,” he explained.
Nevertheless, in the view of Tito as the Minister of Home Affairs, the price of sacrificial animals such as cows and goats still needs to be watched out for because there are always increases from year to year.
“It is necessary to watch out as the price of live cattle and goats always increases from 2019 to 2022, although this is indeed temporary,” he said.
On the same occasion, Director of Price Statistics of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Windhiarso Ponco Adi Putranto added, based on the data owned by BPS, the moments of the Eid al-Adha celebrations in 2019, 2021 and 2022 saw general inflation of goods and services, while the same celebration in 2020 saw deflation.
Cayenne pepper and red chili dominantly contribute to the inflation of the Eid al-Adha celebrations in 2019, 2021 and 2022.
“We are still monitoring Eid al-Adha inflation contributors (this year),” he added.
According to Windhiarso, the price of red chilies and cayenne peppers in general shows an increase in the momentum of Eid al-Adha, both at the village level, large trade, and consumers.
This is allegedly triggered by seasonal or weather factors and the high demand for the big moments of Eid al-Adha.
“Prices fell in April, but we’ll see in May-June whether there’s a lot of supply or not, so we’ll see whether cayenne and red pepper as well as beef will contribute to inflation this June or not,” he concluded.
