Meanwhile, in Panakukang Sub-district, there are three evacuation points with 80 victims.

Makassar Mayor Moh. Ramdhan “Danny” Pomanto earlier visited Block 8 and Block 10 Perumnas Antang, Manggala Subdistrict, to see the flood condition.

Not only inspecting the evacuation points, he also went around using a rubber boat to have a dialogue with the victims who still chose to stay at home.

Danny Pomanto said that the flooding that occurred this time was quite severe. Extreme weather conditions are one of the causes.

“This is a fairly severe flood, quite high. This is the second time in the beginning of this rainy season, and we must be prepared that this could happen many times,” he said during his visit.

During his visit, in addition to ensuring the availability and safety of logistical assistance for the evacuees, he also wanted to ensure that children, the elderly, and all evacuees were well taken care of.

“I saw that the average condition of the community is healthy. Our health system is well covered. The worst, most of them are experiencing itching and a little bit of fever,” he said.

However, he found many residents who still stayed in their homes and refused to be evacuated to evacuation points.

“This one must be taken care of carefully. Many people do not want to evacuate, while our protocol is to help at the evacuation point. Despite this, I have sent doctors to several houses to conduct examinations. Because, if people don’t want to evacuate, we will never know the risks they face,” he explained.

For this reason, Danny Pomanto invites all parties including the people of Makassar City to work together to deal with flooding.

This includes instructing all OPDs to always be alert to the worst possibilities in the midst of this extreme weather.

“To the entire community, we must work together instead of blaming each other. Let’s help each other. Help our families, especially our children and parents. That is the most important thing,” he concluded.
