THE EDITOR – For the first time in history, the Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) Jakarta recruited Indonesian celebrities as Taiwan tourism ambassadors to attract tourists to travel to the Formosa Country.
In a press conference for the launch of the video and introduction of the celebrity appointed as Taiwan’s tourism ambassadors at Cafe Midaz, Senayan, Friday (21/2/2025), TETO Head Bruce Hung said that there was no political decision that influenced Taiwan’s stance. He only hopes that tourist visits from Indonesia will increase in 2025.
“This decision has nothing to do with politics. It’s time to visit Taiwan,” said Bruce, who was just elected as the Head of TETO Jakarta a few months ago, when asked by The Editor.
As is known, the Indonesian government has not approved TETO Jakarta’s request to grant free visas for tourists from Taiwan who want to visit Indonesia. This application has been made many times over the years and the results are still zero.
According to Bruce, 2025 is the perfect moment to appoint tourism ambassadors from Indonesia to promote Taiwan. According to him, Taiwan is very ready to host tourists from Indonesia.
According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), it is known that only 94,101 tourists from Indonesia visited Taiwan in 2024.
This figure is very small when compared to visits by Indonesian tourists to the Philippines, which is adjacent to Taiwan, which reached 1,244,372 people in the same period.
AVIATION COMPANIES OPTIMISTIC ABOUT TETO DECISION

TETO Jakarta’s decision to partner with Indonesian celebrity Mikha Tambayong as Taiwan’s tourism ambassador was welcomed by the Formosan airline.
General Manager of the Indonesia Branch of China Air Tao Ming Sung said that his party was very pleased with TETO Jakarta’s decision to recruit an artist from Indonesia to promote Taiwanese tourism.
According to him, this decision was very surprising but also a breath of fresh air for the aviation industry because it will directly break through their economic growth value from Indonesian tourists who want to enjoy the natural beauty of their country, Taiwan.
“Inviting celebrities as Taiwan tourism ambassadors is not only important, but I think is a very smart idea because it is very good for our flight sales business,” said Tao Ming Sung in an exclusive interview with The Editor after a press conference at Cafe Midaz.
With this new decision of TETO Jakarta, Tao Ming Sung targets 9 out of 10 flights provided by China Airlines to be filled with tourists from Indonesia every week.
“We are also arranging connecting flights from Taiwan to other continents in America, Europe and even countries like Japan and China. We remain confident that business will be very good this year,” he said.
Tao Ming Sung revealed that his main task in Indonesia is to say that China Airlines is a Taiwanese airline.
As a tip, for tourists who want to fly with a luxury airline like China Airlines but at an affordable price, he suggests taking a night flight.
“It’s more economical,” he said.

The same thing was also expressed by Eva Air General Manager Makmun. He said, one of Taiwan’s advantages that was not mentioned by Mikha Tambayong in the press conference was the country’ security.
“By collaborating with Mikha as a brand ambassador, the number of tourists to Taiwan should increase,” he said.
However, there is still something that Mikha has not mentioned in the video about Taiwan tourism that was launched at that time, namely security.
So far, said Makmun, Taiwan is a country that really guarantees the security of its citizens. The experience he gained from sending his daughter to school there is the answer for Indonesian tourists, especially the younger generation, who want to travel solo to Taiwan.
Eva Air itself, said Makmun, is an airline from Taiwan that applies high standards in safety and service to its users.
“It is proven because Sky Track itself has named us as the top airlines out of 450 airlines worldwide,” he told The Editor.
For your information, Eva Air is one of 10 airlines that won a 5-star award from Sky Track in 2024.
Meanwhile, in 2025, this airline opened a premium economy class flight ticket with the Jakarta-Taipei route.
So, what are you waiting for? Let’s go to Taiwan!
