JAKARTA – Chairman of Indonesian Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) AA LaNyalla Mahmud Mattalitti encouraged the economic strategy of regional development between Indonesia and Malaysia.

This was conveyed in the Titian Muhibah Malaysian Delegation with the Chairman of DPD RI in the framework of the Introduction of Cosmetic Products, Food, and Beverages from Trengganu Malaysia at Nusantara V Building Hall Parliament Complex, Senayan, Thursday (16/5).

“In the past, we have pursued a regional development strategy called Sijori (Singapore-Johor-Riau). But then it was silent,” said LaNyalla.

In fact, the senator from East Java continued, such cooperation patterns could be expanded, for example between Terengganu and provinces in Sumatra and Kalimantan, to increase the flow of goods and services, maritime connectivity, and cooperation in various other fields.

“We in DPD RI certainly hope that economic interaction between the two countries can be more intensively carried out, involving business actors and business stakeholders at the provincial and district / city levels in both countries, in order to create synergy and a larger and more sustainable regional business scale,” he said.

According to LaNyalla, such a pattern will certainly further enhance trade and economic relations between Indonesia and Malaysia, even the ASEAN region.

This must continue to be encouraged, considering that economic interactions among ASEAN countries themselves are only about 20 per cent of the total interactions of ASEAN countries with other countries outside the region.

One of the reasons, according to him, is because ASEAN countries tend to forget to explore domestic capabilities to strengthen relations, especially between Malaysia and Indonesia.

“I think this visit is very important to raise our awareness as neighboring countries, as allied nations, to strengthen each other and complement our needs, both in the fields of investment, industry, trade, tourism and culture, as well as people-to-people relations in our two countries,” he said.

According to LaNyalla, as the world market is increasingly shaken by the wars in Ukraine and in Palestine, it is the regional markets and markets between neighbouring countries that need to be strengthened and expanded in the future.

Because, there is no guarantee that the world will be safer. On the contrary, the world may become more messed up.

“We also think that the Titian Muhibah that is strengthened today between the Sultanate of Terengganu and DPD RI can be realized with various forms of cooperation and exchange of information and experience that can benefit both parties,” he concluded.

Chairman of the Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (BKSP) of DPD RI Darmansyah Husein welcomed this cooperation step.

As an element that plays a role in continuing to improve the welfare of the people in the region, Darmansyah hopes that this cooperation can continue to be improved in the future.

“We certainly welcome this cooperation and hope that in the future it will continue to be improved. We are in a position to fully support this activity, which is oriented towards improving the economy between countries and also the people involved in it,” Darmansyah said.

Deputy Minister of Terengganu Malaysia Haji Ariffin Deraman thanked DPD RI for welcoming him well.

According to him, this visit was carried out as a feedback to the previous working visit of the Indonesian delegation.

“Thank you to DPD RI, especially to Mr LaNyalla Mattalitti as Chairman, who has received us well. Our visit is a feedback to the Indonesian delegation who visited us on 18 December 2023,” he said.

Ariffin also hoped that this activity could improve trade and economic relations between Indonesia and Malaysia.

“We hope this activity can increase cooperation in trade that is mutually beneficial for both countries,” he added.

At the event, a number of business products from Trengganu Malaysia entrepreneurs produced and exported by PT Laara Star World were exhibited.

PT Laara Star World is a company that produces trusted products and reaches the ASEAN market, including Indonesia.

So far, PT Laara Star World has contributed positively to the economy of Trengganu Malaysia.

On that occasion, the Chairman of DPD RI was accompanied by Chairman of BKSP of DPD RI Darmansyah Husein, Vice Chairwoman of BKSP Maya Rumantir, Secretary General of DPD RI Rahman Hadi, and Special Staff of the Chairman of DPD RI Brigadier General of Police Amostian.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian delegation that attended included Deputy Minister of Terengganu Malaysia Haji Ariffin Deraman, Malaysian Senator Azman bin Ibrahim, Deputy Chief of Mission (Deputy Ambassador of Malaysia to Indonesia) Encik Farzamie Sarkawi, and a number of businessmen from Trengganu Malaysia.

Also present were the kings and sultans of Nusantara, including YM Sultan Syarif Machmud Melvin (also an elected DPD RI member), YM Adatuang Sidenreng XXV, YM Sultan Sepuh Aloeda II, YM Turah Bima Pangeran Mahkota Raja Denpasar, YM Prince Cevi Isnaendar, YM Dewi Ratna Muhlisa, YM Dhien Kausarina, and a number of other invited guests.
