JAKARTA – As a follow-up to the agreement between the Government and the Legislative Body of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), the Bill on Amendments to Law No.19/2006 on the Presidential Advisory Council is now entering the stage of Level II discussions and decision-making to be passed into law.
Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB) Abdullah Azwar Anas said that the Government in principle understands and fully supports the drafting of the bill.
“The role of the Presidential Advisory Council is crucial as an independent and strategic source of views and advice. Thus, this change is expected to strengthen the position of council,” he said when giving the Government’s final opinion at the 7th Plenary Meeting of the House of Representatives of the Session I Period 2024–2025, at Nusantara II Building, Jakarta, Thursday (19/9).
The drafting of the bill was proposed with the aim of optimizing the functions and strategic role of the Presidential Advisory Council as an institution that provides input and consideration to the President.
This strengthening also includes adjusting to the new challenges faced by the state, especially with the increasingly dynamic and complex conditions of governance.
The council is expected to be a key partner in providing constructive and relevant recommendations.
The advice provided should cover various strategic dimensions including political, economic, social, legal and security aspects, in order to assist the formulation of government policies.
This is in line with the need for an advisory body that is able to provide a multidimensional perspective on various issues facing the country.
The recommendations are given by the council through a process of in-depth studies and quality analyses as a basis for the President in making strategic decisions.
“Presidential Advisory Council is an institution that is able to provide strategic recommendations,” he said.
Furthermore, the Government also sees the importance of strengthening cross-sector coordination through the Presidential Advisory Council.
The role of the council is to be a solid partner in providing strategic insights that strengthen coordination across economic, social, and political sectors.
Thus, the resulting policies are not only sectorally relevant, but also integrative and sustainable.
“We believe that with the passing of this bill, we have taken a step forward in strengthening the President’s advisory institutions that are more responsive and relevant in facing various challenges now and in the future,” Anas concluded.
