Vice Chairman of Indonesian Regional Representatives Council (DPD RI) Sultan B Najamudin appreciates the efforts of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) blocking the accounts of online gambling players.
According to him, online gambling is a disruption that is very troubling to society.
Online gambling has obviously caused financial risks, criminal acts, privacy violations, reduced productivity, and disturbed the mental health of its players.
“We are all very concerned about the phenomenon of online gambling that has spread widely among the public. Unfortunately, people do not realize that online gambling is a financial fraud motive that causes the most financial losses,” said Sultan through his official statement on Saturday (20/4).
The former head of HIPMI Bengkulu believes that OJK’s efforts will have a significant impact in suppressing online gambling transaction activities.
He hoped that related ministries and law enforcement agencies as well as clergy would collaborate to tackle the spread of online gambling in the community.
“The phenomenon of online gambling or slots has even entered villages that have internet networks. This is certainly very threatening to the social life of the community, especially the younger generation in the long run,” he said.
Furthermore, Sultan asked OJK to increase the intensity of blocking public accounts related to online gambling.
OJK is known to have blocked 5,000 accounts suspected of being closely related to online gambling.
Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of OJK Mahendra Siregar said the blocking had been carried out from the end of 2023 to March 2024.
“When we receive a list of accounts that are suspected to be used or being used as part of online gambling activities, we immediately block them. The number is around 5,000 accounts in the past few months,” Mahendra said at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Thursday (18/4).
