THE EDITOR – Ahead of the Regional Head Election on 27 November, the Banyuwangi Regency Government held a khotmil (reciting) of the Quran which was held simultaneously in all government offices within the Banyuwangi Regency Government, Thursday (21/11/2024).
In each musala (small mosque) in each OPD and sub-district office, the civil servants (ASNs) and Quran memorisers together chanted the holy verses of the Quran starting at 07.00 until the afternoon.
“This activity is part of an endeavor to ask for blessings for various activities that we carry out in Banyuwangi, including the closest one is the simultaneous regional elections. Hopefully with His blessings, the elections in Banyuwangi can run conducive, smoothly, and peacefully,” said Acting Regional Secretary of Banyuwangi Regency, Guntur Priambodo.
The 2024 regional elections will be held on 27 November in 7 provinces and 508 regencies/cities throughout Indonesia, including Banyuwangi Regency.
In addition to reciting the Quran, Banyuwangi also held a recitation of salawat and prayer together by community and interfaith leaders. This activity will be held on Friday night (22/11/2024) at the Kedayunan RTH Field, Kabat Sub-district.
“With the reciting and prayers, hopefully the elections will run peacefully and smoothly, and a trustworthy leader will be elected. Hopefully, the elected leaders can bring Banyuwangi Regency to be more advanced and prosperous,” said Guntur.
He then invited all Banyuwangi people who have the right to vote to give their voices on 27 November.
“Choosing a leader is an obligation, because one vote determines our future for the next five years. Come to the polling station and exercise your right to vote,” he said.
Meanwhile, Head of the People’s Welfare Section of the Banyuwangi Regency Secretariat, Yusdi Irawan, added that Khatmil Quran was held in 25 sub-district offices and 46 OPDs. Each of these agencies will recite the Quran at least once.
“So, we can at least recite the Quran 71 times in this activity,” he concluded.
