Annual Pancasila Ceremony in Riau, Chairman of DPD RI Appreciates Government Efforts to Maintain Resilience of Energy

PEKANBARU – The Pancasila Annual Ceremony, which will be attended by President Jokowi, will be held at the Garuda Field of Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) Complex in Dumai City, on Saturday (1/6).

The Ministry of State Secretariat explained that the choosing of Riau, one of the oil and gas producing provinces, as the location of the ceremony is to show that Indonesia is serious in making efforts to build the resilience of energy.

Chairman of Indonesian Regional Representative Council (DPD RI AA) LaNyalla Mahmud Mattalitti appreciated the government’s efforts in maintaining national resilience of energy as it is another source of national resilience.

“Building national sovereignty, one of which is through national resilience of energy. Because energy is the main source for building other national resilience. Food security, health, education, including security and defense,” he said upon his arrival in Pekanbaru, Friday (31/5).

LaNyalla, who will be in charge of reading the text of the 1945 Constitution Preamble at the Pancasila Annual Ceremony in Dumai on Saturday, also gave appreciation to Pertamina for successfully transitioning the management of the Rokan and Mahakam Blocks from foreign companies. The success can be called a symbol of national energy revival.

He explained that in 2050, the industrial sector will dominate more than other sectors.

Thus, the share of the industrial sector will be 42 per cent in the normal business scenario, 40 per cent in the Sustainable Development scenario, and 37 per cent in the Low Carbon scenario.

“Therefore, I agree with the analysis of several energy economists. If Indonesia can use cheaper energy as a substitute for petrol, the government can save at least Rp100 trillion in one year,” he added.

LaNyalla also encouraged the nation to strengthen its commitment to developing New Renewable Energy (EBT).

Because, Indonesia is a country rich in EBT sources, but its development still seems sporadic and depends on political interests.

“There needs to be a serious and systematic effort to improve this situation, so that Indonesia has good energy security,” he explained.

To fulfil Indonesia’s energy needs, LaNyalla suggested the use of all viable and proven alternative energies, such as geothermal and hydro energy.

“Meanwhile, solar, wind, and ocean wave energy which have great potential must also begin to be explored,” she said.

Pertamina earlier stated that it had succeeded in increasing production since taking over the management of the two blocks.

In the Rokan Block, for example, Pertamina through PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) PHR’s oil production currently reaches 161 thousand barrels of oil per day (MBOPD).

This figure is higher than before the transfer of management, which was 158.7 MBOPD.

Related to this, President Joko Widodo even plans to directly review the current conditions at Indonesia’s largest oil well.

Especially after Indonesia officially managed this oldest oil well on 8 August 2021 from being managed by the United States oil and gas company, Chevron.
