JAKARTA – Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Abdullah Azwar Anas praised the digitalisation of the courts by the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court is known to have launched electronic court administration services for civil, religious civil, and state administrative cases in 2018.
“The Supreme Court’s spirit is in line with ours to build an Electronic-Based Government System (EBGS) to make it easier for the community to access various government services,” said Minister Anas after meeting Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court for Judicial Affairs Sunarto at the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Office, Wednesday (13/12).
Digital court services or known as e-Court are services for registered users to register cases online (e-Filling), obtain estimated court fees online, online payments (e-Payment), summons made by electronic channels (e-Summon), and trials conducted electronically (e-Litigation).
The Supreme Court has also launched e-Court services for criminal cases by the end of March 2020 as a response in adapting to the Covid-19 pandemic situation.
On the same occasion, Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court for Judicial Affairs Sunarto said that since 2018, the Supreme Court has issued Supreme Court Regulation No. 3/2018 on Electronic Court Case Administration.
The transformation of the court from a paper-based administration system to a digital-based system is the court’s response to the demands of modernity and an effort to improve access to justice.
“And this is very much in line with the programme of the Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform to bridge the gap between our ability to perform and public expectations, one of which is by using IT facilities,” he said.
Sunarto also emphasized that his staff is committed to accelerating EBGS in the case handling process.
The Supreme Court will also continue to simplify and integrate applications to make it easier for users.
In addition to discussing digitisation, the meeting also highlighted several issues such as the planned increase in court classes and the formation of prospective judges in the selection process for the State Civil Apparatus in the coming year.
“So after so many years of no formation of prospective judges, this will be a consideration from us to immediately propose a formation for prospective judges in 2024 as the shortage is quite a lot,” Anas concluded.
