BULUNGAN – The Vice chairman of The House of Regional Representatives of Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) Mahyudin, together with the Vice Minister of ATR/BPN, Surya Tjandra, and several members of DPD RI, including Hasan Basri, Marten Billa and Fernando Sinaga, held a meeting with the Provincial Government of North Kalimantan (Kaltara).
The meeting was attended by the government itself and several OPDs of the Regional Government of Kaltara, at the Joint Service building, Provincial Government of Kaltara, on Tuesday (29/3).
The meeting, which is a part of working visits by the Vice Chairman of DPD RI, aimed to make an inventory of various development problems faced by the Province of Kaltara, the new province in Indonesia.
“In this working visit, we try to see firsthand the challenges, obstacles, and opportunities for implementing development in Kaltara as the youngest province,” said Mahyudin.
According to him, several problems were found during the meeting, especially in the border areas.
One of the issues faced by the community living in the border of Malaysia is the limited road infrastructure.
“The problem lies in the damaged road at the border areas. As what happened to our brothers in Apo Kayan, who are often isolated because of it. Damaged and disconnected roads have also rocketed the price of basic necessities and the fuel prices decreed by the President can not be implemented there,” he said.
According to this senator from East Kalimantan, the DPD also has received aspirations regarding the unfinished construction of the Krayan-Malinau road and several other obstacles on infrastructure’s development.
“It becomes the homework of the North Kalimantan government and the DPD RI to fight for these infrastructure issues,” he concluded.
