“The rising prices and scarcity of supply of basic commodities which occur almost routinely before the month of Ramadan, need to be monitored and controlled,” said Mayhudin in the session that took place in Nusantara IV, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Friday (17/2).

“It shows that food governance in Indonesia still has loopholes that can be exploited by certain elements.”

DPD RI leaders, he continued, asked Committee II DPD RI to be able to coordinate with the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Trade, BULOG, and related agencies regarding this matter.

He also asked all DPD RI members to communicate with local governments in controlling the prices of basic commodities.

“We hope that through intensive coordination and communication with relevant agencies, price stability for these basic necessities can be realized, especially ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr this year,” said Mahyudin.

On the other hand, the DPD RI strongly condemned the act of burning Al-Qurans by Swedish right-wing politicians.

This heinous act is considered to hurt the hearts of Muslims around the world.

Therefore, DPD RI encouraged the Swedish authorities to take firm action on this real action of Islamophobia.

“Racist actions in any form cannot be justified. Insulting and harassing religion in the name of freedom of expression should not be tolerated,” said the senator from East Kalimantan.
