BANYUWANGI – The project of revitalizing the Taman Suruh Agrotourism (AWT), Banyuwangi, continues to be accelerated. The development of this destination which carries the Osing Tribe (the indigenous people of Banyuwangi) cultural concept has reached 70 percent.

AWT is a 10.5 hectares wide tourist destination located at the foot of Mount Ijen, precisely in Tamasuruh Village, Glagah District.

Presents a wide range of agricultural commodities, this destination is now being arranged to be more attractive with the support from the central government.

At that location was built a row of beautiful houses of the Osing Tribe. They are in line with expanses of agricultural land which then make AWT as the fusion of cultural nuances and natural charm.

There are also built a number of facilities including bus parking areas, pedestrians; roads for vehicle and car access; vehicle ticketing; driver’s waiting room; mechanical, electrical, and Plumbing (MEP), as well as car and motorcycle parking areas.

In addition, the management also built the main building and ponds, ground water tanks, public toilets, prayer rooms, as well as garbage disposal sites (TPS), plazas, and dance studios.

“Thank you, the central government who continues to support the development of Banyuwangi, including structuring the AWT. Hopefully this destination can become a new magnet to trigger economic recovery. In addition to the process that has created jobs, hopefully when it operates later, it can grow the business activities of local residents, which of course also requires some workers,” said Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani while reviewing the AWT arrangement work, Wednesday (23/3).

“AWT is now being developed into a destination that can show the record of Banyuwangi in the past, present, and future. It is shown through a combination of local wisdom and the use of technology in the tourist area,” added Ipuk.

Traditional activities and cultural attractions are scheduled to be held regularly at the destination, without losing the identity as a flower garden and display of Banyuwangi’s leading agricultural commodity.

“This will be a destination that shows Banyuwangi’s local wealth. Not only showing the local culture and agricultural potential, AWT also offers a beautiful view of the mountains and the Bali strait. Hopefully, everything goes smoothly and can be finished quickly,” said Ipuk.

At the location, Ipuk went around and directly observed the construction of a number of facilities.

Ipuk ensured that the work carried out the local wisdom of Banyuwangi in the form of a tourist village (Kampung Osing) which displays its cultural authenticity.

“The work has reached 70 percent. We aim to finish it in August,” said Ipuk.

The remaining 30 percent of the work is for the completion of the final stages, such as pedestrian construction, wall installation of Osing’s house and landscaping.
