SURABAYA – The Chairman of The House of Regional Representative of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) AA LaNyalla Mahmud Mattalitti gave his support to the operation of electric buses in the East Java city of Surabaya.
LaNyalla even invited the community to use public transportation when the electric buses start to operate later.
“It’s been 50 days since it was launched on December 20, 2022. I hope that electric buses can soon operate in Surabaya and meet the transportation needs of the public,” said LaNyalla.
The senator from East Java also hopes that a contract agreement between the Surabaya City Government and electric bus operators can be reached soon.
“An agreement must be reached immediately so that we can immediately address the needs of Surabaya residents’ modes of transportation while at the same time supporting mobility and avoiding the use of private vehicles,” he said.
According to him, the comfort that comes from electric buses is a call for people to have willingness to switch from using private cars to public transportation.
“Of course the existence of electric buses will have a number of positive impacts. Because, if people switch to public transportation, fuel consumption will decrease. And it will also have an impact on reducing traffic jams,” he said.
One that is no less important, he continued, is the creation of cleaner and healthier air in the city of Surabaya.
For this reason, LaNyalla hopes that electric buses as public transportation can also be used in other cities.
“Electric buses as public transportation must be able to operate in other cities as well so that more and more citizens will switch to public transportation. The more people use public transportation, the more we can reduce fuel consumption,” he concluded.
