JAKARTA – In order to stabilize the price of red chillies, the Ministry of Agriculture through the Directorate General of Horticulture together with Champion Chilli sent a supply of red chillies to Pasar Induk Kramat Jati (PIKJ), Jakarta, Tuesday (31/10).
This shipment is part of DG Horticulture and Champion Chilli’s commitment to maintain the price of red chillies in the market, which has skyrocketed recently.
Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman revealed that the world is currently facing a food crisis due to the impact of climate change.
And as chillies are one of the commodities prone to inflation, Amran requested that its supply be given special attention.
“The world is now facing a food crisis. It is important for us to remain committed to maintaining the supply of strategic commodities such as chillies to avoid price and stock upheaval in the market,” he said as stated in a press statement dated 1 November 2023.
Champion Chilli, as the farmers are known, sent a total of 5.5 tonnes of red chillies from Central Java, Yogyakarta, and West Java.
This delivery was accepted by Guyub Rukun Pedagang Cabe (GRPC) and will continue every day as agreed, until the price of red chili becomes stable.
“This is a joint commitment between the Ministry of Agriculture and the champion farmers. When prices rise, the champions are ready to distribute their supplies from various regions,” explained Director of Vegetables and Medicinal Plants Andi Muhammad Idil Fitri.
“Today, a shipment of 5.5 tonnes arrived and has been received by the managers of PIKJ and Guyub Rukun. This shipment will continue according to the agreement,” he added.
PIKJ Manager Mardiyanto said that the price of red chillies had reached IDR70,000 per kilogram.
Following this, the Chilli Champions agreed to sell chillies at a difference of IDR5,000 below the market price.
According to him, this price agreement will be very beneficial for traders and the community.
“Farmer Champion and Guyub Rukun agreed to form a price of IDR52,500, which is expected to benefit the wider community,” said Mardiyanto.
Representative of Guyub Rukun PIKJ Chilli Traders H. Mukhlis expressed his gratitude for the delivery of these supplies.
“We really appreciate this shipment of red chillies. In the last few days, the price of red chili has increased. With this supply, we hope to be able to stabilize the price of red chili in the market so that it will not burden consumers,” concluded H. Mukhlis.
