BANYUWANGI – Banyuwangi Regency once again becomes a host for a sport tourism event. Welcoming 2025, Banyuwangi will be the first host for Tetralogy East Java Running Festival 2025. The running event initiated by the East Java Regional Police in collaboration with the Banyuwangi Regency Government will be held on 26 January 2025.
There will be three distance categories in this competition, namely fun walk, 5-kilometre run, and 10-kilometre run. Each distance is divided into several other categories, namely student, open male/female, and master male/female.
Chairperson of East Java Running Festival Committee Bagus Ramadhani explained that Banyuwangi was chosen to be the first host because it is widely known to be a safe and comfortable area for sport enthusiasts.
He said that the region is used to hosting major sporting events ranging from cycling, surfing, volleyball, and various other sports.
“Other than being comfortable, we can expect a high enthusiasm of the people for every sports event held in Banyuwangi,” he said.
The committee targets as many as 3 thousand runners will take part in this event. And to add to the excitement of the event, the organisers will be presenting several running influencers at each event in each city.
Besides Banyuwangi, East Java Running Festival will also be held in three other regencies/cities in East Java namely Kediri, Madiun, and Surabaya.
Since it is a “Tetralogy”, the organisers will also crown the best runner from the entire East Java Running Festival series. In each race, the runners will get points according to their finishing position. The points will be accumulated to determine the best runner.
“There will be additional prizes for the three champions with the most points in these four events,” he continued.
Meanwhile, Acting Regional Secretary of Banyuwangi Guntur Priambodo said it was an honour for Banyuwangi to be the first place to hold this event. This shows that Banyuwangi is a friendly area for sportsmen.
“This also strengthens Banyuwangi Regency as a destination for sports tourism lovers,” he explained.
So far, Banyuwangi has been known as the location for national and international sports events. These include the Tour de Banyuwangi Ijen cycling event and the international paragliding championship. In 2025, Banyuwangi is also planned to be the venue for the World Surf League (WSL).
“So, let’s welcome this East Java Running Festival as best and warmest as possible,” he said.
Police Sports Supervisor in Athletics of East Java Regional Police Kompol Wahyudi explained, this event carries three main objectives. First, to encourage a healthy, safe, and comfortable lifestyle. Second, to develop the local economy.
“Third, as a medium for promoting tourism in Banyuwangi, Kediri, Madiun, and Surabaya,” he said.
