JAKARTA – It takes a joint commitment from various stakeholders to improve the water resources management in accordance with the sustainable development goals. This includes the governments, the private sectors and the communities.

Water is a basic need for human beings all over the world. Water management thus affects economic growth and prosperity of each country. However, many people still do not have access to clean water.

Based on the World Bank 2022 report, it is estimated that 2 billion people around the world do not have access to proper and safe drinking water, 3.6 billion do not have adequate sanitation facilities, and 2.3 billion people do not have hand washing facilities.

The deprived access to clean water is due to various factors such as pollution, a gap between population growth and water production, and the variability of rainfall. These factors contribute to a more challenging environment to improve economic growth and sustainable development.

Considering the importance of global water issues, the World Water Council together with the Indonesian Government are organizing the 10th World Water Forum.

The event will take place in Bali, Indonesia on 18-24 May 2024. As the host, Indonesia confirms its commitment for collaborations in overcoming the global water crisis.

Under the theme “Water for Shared Prosperity”, the 10th World Water Forum will be held with a series of events such as panel discussions, fairs and expos, cultural nights, and other additional activities.

The panel discussions will highlight various sub-themes namely Water for Humans and Nature, Water Security and Prosperity, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, Governance, Cooperation and Hydro Diplomacy, Sustainable Water Finance, and Knowledge and Innovation.

Indonesia is inviting the global society to take part in Early Bird registration which officially started on May 18, 2023 and will end on November 18, 2023.

The criteria for eligible participants are leaders or representatives of international organizations, state representatives, public officials, academics, civil society, youth organizations, and representatives of the private sectors.

President of the World Water Council (WWC) Loïc Fauchon said he was optimistic that Indonesia would successfully organize the 10th World Water Forum and gather all representatives from all around the world to create joint solutions to the world’s water problems.

“As the largest country in the Southeast Asian region, Indonesia is expected to be a role model for other countries, notably the Southeast Asian countries, in terms of water management. The 10th World Water Forum plays an important role in providing a forum for exchanging information on water issues and establishing mutual agreements on water management,” said Loïc Fauchon.

Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said that the 10th World Water Forum was a momentous event for Indonesia to be able to work together with various stakeholders, both local and international.

“We should take this as a huge opportunity to demonstrate our capacity to the world and to improve the quality of our water management. We hope that the 10th World Water Forum can lead us to a better future,” said Basuki.

In order to attract global participants, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia will distribute invitations and information booklets regarding the 10th World Water Forum.
