JAKARTA – Each region is required to improve its economy.
Therefore, The Chairman of The House of Regional Representative of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) AA LaNyalla Mahmud Mattalitti hopes that regional leaders are able to explore every economic potential that exists in their respective regions.
And it should not stop there, LaNyalla also wishes the existing potentials could be used as a superior and priority tool to boost regional income.
“Each region must make a priority scale and target the economic sector with the most potential to become local revenue or PAD,” said LaNyalla, Saturday (18/2).
The senator from East Java chooses Bali as an example.
Located in central Indonesia, the province is targeting 4.5 million tourist visits throughout 2023 as a step to boost the economy to reach 4.5 percent from minus 0.9 percent due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“What Bali is doing is a concrete effort as part of an effort to accelerate the rate of economic growth based on a scale of priorities,” said LaNyalla.
Therefore, LaNyalla encourages each region to boost the regional economy and reduce the number of contractions that occurred several times during the pandemic.
“Regional leaders understand the strategic potentials that can grow the economy and drive economic activity, especially reducing the unemployment rate which is predicted to continue to increase,” he said.
LaNyalla said, in fact there are many regions that have economic potential based on local wisdom that can be used as the spearhead of the change of the community’s economy.
The problem is it has not been optimally explored. At the end, local governments only rely on funds from the central government to build their respective region.
“If it can be explored, I’m sure that not only PAD will increase, but also the welfare of the people,” he added.
“Indonesia is very rich in economic potential. And regional heads must be creative in exploring it,” LaNyalla concluded.
