Making A Phinisi Ship, Makassar Mayor Impressed the Commander of TNI

MAKASSAR – The commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Yudo Margono was impressed with the phinisi ship making program initiated by Makassar Mayor Danny Pomanto.

He conveyed the amazement while monitoring the program which was held in the heart of Makassar City, South Sulawesi.

It is known that Makassar was chosen as the host of Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo (MNEK) 2023. To enliven the event, the city served the program as one of its amazing shows.

Accompanied by Danny, who wore all-black outfit, Yudo was spotted in contrast in the event by wearing all-white outfit.

His face was full of admiration towards every detail of the making, while Danny explained each part of the ship and greeted the workers from time to time next to him.

According to Danny, the phinisi ship was built as an educational medium, especially for the younger generation. So far, the progress of the work has been going smoothly.

“The progress is very fast. You can see many things from the ship now,” he said, per Makassar Insight.

He said the generals from the 36 MNEK participating countries would also directly observe the process of making the ship.

One to be highlighted, the construction was directly led by the village head of Ara Bulukumba.

The making of the phinisi ship which took place at CPI is an effort to enliven the MNEK event.

In addition, the Makassar City government has also made a display that contains an explanation of the origin, types, and designs of the phinisi ship.

All to spread information about the phinisi ship, which is a world cultural heritage, to both domestic and foreign tourists–especially the MNEK 2023 participants.

“As the display made in bahasa Indonesia, we provide a translator to assist the ship builder to explain to the tourists,” said Danny.

As what he promised to the community, that with a commitment to maintaining cultural values, world-class South Sulawesi icons will become part of the education of today’s generation, including phinisi ship.

The countries participating in the MNEK 2023 are Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Canada, China, Chile, France, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Kenya, Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Qatar, Russia, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, England, United States, Brazil, Fiji, Myanmar, Singapore, Australia and Vietnam.
