Vice Chairman of Indonesian Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) Sultan B Najamudin supports President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) efforts to grant mining management permits to community organisations (ormas).
According to him, the management and exploration of natural resources (SDA) must be done inclusively and not monopolized by certain business entities.
In this context, ormas also have the right to be economically empowered by the state.
“Ormas in Indonesia have an important role as a social node. Some ormas such as Muhammadiyah even have charities or business units that are managed professionally and modernly,” said Sultan through his official statement on Monday (3/6).
The former chairman of HIPMI Bengkulu also hopes that ormas will immediately prepare the terms and conditions needed to obtain a permit from the government, especially the capability of human resources.
“The government through the Ministry of Investment certainly has a careful identification and verification mechanism for prospective religious ormas that will be granted permit. We hope that they can maintain the government’s trust well and responsibly,” said Sultan.
Furthermore, the former Deputy Governor of Bengkulu explained that religious ormas generally concentrate on social, educational, and economic issues.
Therefore, he considered it very important for the government to make these ormas productive and independent.
However, he asked the government to conduct intensive supervision and mentoring after granting permits.
“Ormas must answer public doubts with professional and sustainable mining management,” he concluded.
President Jokowi has officially signed a regulation allowing religious ormas to manage mining land in Indonesia.
This is contained in Government Regulation Number 25 of 2024 concerning Amendments to Government Regulation Number 96 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Mineral and Coal Mining Business Activities.
The regulation was signed by Jokowi and promulgated on Thursday (30/5).
The new regulation includes article 83A, which allows religious ormas to own a Special Mining Business License Area.
