JAKARTA – The Vice Chairman of The House of Regional Representatives of Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) Sultan B Najamudin asked the government to immediately provide an explanation and clarification regarding the issue of a financial scandal at the Directorate General of Taxes at the Ministry of Finance happening lately.
This request was made by the senator from Bengkulu in order to answer public questions and ensure that public trust over the tax institutions is maintained.
We want this issue not to widen and affect tax revenues and disrupt the running of the government, he said.
“At least the public can understand the problems that exist in the Ministry of Finance. By this way, the issue will not be converted into a political issue and has the opportunity to affect government tax revenue this year,” emphasized Sultan.
Furthermore, the former KNPI activist requested that the Ministry of Finance continue to coordinate with law enforcement agencies such as the Corruption Eradication Committee and the Attorney General’s Office.
“We want an open, thorough and fast investigation and this to be carried out immediately,” he added.
“We know that government tax revenues achieved good results last year. And the target of tax revenues in the 2023 state budget is Rp2,021.2 trillion,” Sultan said.
“However, the actions of tax officers who tend to be corrupt greatly affect people’s decisions and compliance in fulfilling their tax obligations,” he concluded.
Deputy for Prevention and Monitoring of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Pahala Nainggolan said that his party will soon submit data of 134 tax employees who own shares to the Ministry of Finance.
He said that the fastest submission of the data would be today, Friday (10/3).
