MADRID – The Indonesian government as the host of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali together with the World Water Council (WWC) have prepared a series of meeting forums leading up to the main event.
The forum consists of 3 main processes–political, regional, and thematic.
This was conveyed by Expert Staff of the Minister of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) for Technology, Industry and Environment Endra S. Atmawidjaja as Deputy Chair of the Tenth WWF National Committee Secretariat in the Discussion of the 21st Meeting of The High-level Experts and Leaders Panel (HELP) on Water and Disasters which was held in Madrid, Spain, Tuesday (27/6).
“These three processes will coordinate various action-oriented efforts/real solutions through prioritized political and regional agendas, as well as identified main themes, to achieve the goal of water as a means to the shared prosperity,” said Endra who is also the spokesperson for the Ministry of PUPR.
A political forum that discusses various policies will be held in August this year at the 1st Senior Official Meeting and will be followed by the 2nd Senior Official/High-level Official Meetings on the agenda of the 2nd Stakeholders Consultation Meeting on 12–13 October 2023.
“The political forum will consist of meetings at the head of state level, parliamentary level, ministerial level, regional government level and river area management level,” said Endra.
Endra also said that there will be a river area management level meeting in the near future.
This forum will be coordinated by the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO), where the Government of Indonesia will sign the agreement with INBO at the 3rd International Conference on Water and Climate in Fes, Morocco, in early July 2023.
“Meanwhile, regional forums will be divided into five major regions, including the Mediterranean, Asia Pacific, Americas and Africa,” he continued.
“Furthermore, for the thematic forums, six sub-themes will be the topics. They are Water Security and Prosperity, Water for Humans and Nature, Disaster Risk Reduction Management, Water and Government Diplomacy and Cooperation, Sustainable Financing of Water Management, and Innovation and Knowledge”.
The 10th World Water Forum in Bali will consist of at least 166 sessions to accommodate political, regional and thematic processes.
“We really appreciate it when HELP can support in realizing the Bandung Spirit Summit Special Session and also in establishing World Lake Day as a UN General Assembly resolution,” said Endra.
The Indonesian government believes that the spirit of the Asian-African Conference in Bandung (Bandung Spirit) is still very relevant to embracing diverse interests in finding solutions to various water-related issues.
