BANYUWANGI – The SMS Pisan program, aka Sapi Manak Setahun Pisan (cows give birth once a year), continues to be promoted by the Banyuwangi Regency Government. Launched in 2021, this program has succeeded in increasing cattle productivity in Banyuwangi.

Through this program, the Department of Agriculture and Food provides treatment for cows experiencing reproductive disorders so that they can produce optimally, once a year.

“The SMS Pisan program turned out to be quite effective. Cows that previously had problems in reproducing, with this program can reproduce even once a year,” said Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani on Wednesday (4/10), while visiting the Barokah Rojo Joyo livestock group in Bagorejo Village, Srono District, in a series of Regent Ngantor in the Village (Bunga Desa) program.

With this program, the productivity of thousands of cows in Banyuwangi has increased. From previously around 28,000 individuals were born per year, now it has reached 30,000 per year.

“This will enable the cattle population in Banyuwangi to increase, ultimately improving the welfare of fellow farmers,” she added.

Banyuwangi is known as a center for beef cattle. With the SMS Pisan program, the current total cattle population in Banyuwangi has reached 146,000.

In this program, a team from the Agriculture and Food Service provides assistance to breeders whose cows have reproductive problems.

Head of Animal Health and Public Health, Veterinary Department, Drh. Nanang Sugiharto said the team provided treatment such as hormonal injections, vitamins and medicines, minerals and other treatments for free.

They also perform ultrasound to check the cow’s reproductive health. All treatments are carried out free of charge. Every year, around 1,000 cows receive this treatment program.

This program was welcomed positively by breeders. One of them, Moh. Solikin admitted that his cow’s fertility increased after receiving treatment.

Previously, Solikin’s cows had never been pregnant until they were 5 years old. Even though it has been mated 11 times.

“At first, my cow couldn’t get pregnant. Alhamdulillah, after two years of treatment, she became pregnant twice,” said Solikin.
