BENGKULU – The Vice Chairman of The House of Regional Representative of Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) Sultan B Najamudin demanded the government through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) a special attention to the agenda for improving the quality of Quality Standards and Teacher Welfare in the revision process of the 2022 National Education System Law.

This former deputy governor of Bengkulu admitted that he welcomed the government’s efforts to update the material for the Law of National Education System and other related laws in responding to and adapting to changes in digitalization.

“So far, we tend to ignore that the quality of educational products or outputs is largely determined by the quality of teachers and teaching staff at all levels of education. Competent and inspirational teachers must be the standard in the Indonesian National Education System,” said Sultan through his official statement on Wednesday (2/3).

According to him, Indonesia must have more demands on teacher performance, although it must also be balanced with adjustments to the quality of the welfare of teachers and teaching staff throughout Indonesia.

“Digitalization and pandemics have given us many important references in the world of national education. The internet and digitization certainly help our students a lot to be able to understand more quickly about subjects, but not by developing the emotional quality of students in understanding the realities of life,” he said.

We believe that the standardization of teacher quality will ideally be a fundamental first step in the effort to achieve equality in the quality of education.

Therefore, institutionally, DPD RI specifically provides notes and emphasizes the quality of teachers and teaching staff which we have neglected to improve.

This step is believed to have a direct impact on the quality of national education.

It is known that the Law of the National Education System is in the process of submitting the 2022 National Education System Law (RUU Sisdiknas).

The bill is an amendment to three education laws, namely Law No. 20/2003 on the National Education System, Law No. 14/2005 on Teachers and Lecturers, and Law Number 12/2012 concerning Higher Education.
