MAKASSAR – Makassar International Eight Festival and Forum (F8) becomes a door for international people knowing more about South Sulawesi.
How is that so?
Looking back to its history, the event had succeeded in grabbing the attention of the central government, that is the Ministry of Tourism, which then officially announced it as a part of Visit Indonesia for years.
This year, the F8 still keeps its interesting series of events so that tourist, both from within and outside the country, are willing to come and enjoy their time during the event.
Various attractions that are widely loved by the international tourists are also here, such as skydiving, paramotor, fighter jet, flyboard, jet ski and the phinisi ship show.
Especially for the skydiving and paramotor, it’s well known that both have gathered tons of love from the youth all over the world.
On the other hand, the skydiving attraction event that is held by the Makassar City government led by Danny Pomanto is expected to see many people crowding in the site.
Not to mention the show of Phinisi Ship, the pride of South Sulawesi, being the main topic of talks of the foreign tourists who have traveled far from their respective countries not to give it a blink.
One of the goers, Linda (30), claimed that she comes from Tangerang, a city that is located in different land, and sleeps in one of the starred-hotels around Pettarani to watch the Phinisi Ship show of F8.
“I have heard about phinisi ships since a long time ago, yet haven’t had a chance to see it live. I only saw it on Google. And now, I am here to enjoy the show–they say it will be so artistic,” she said to THE EDITOR.
Not only the legendary show, Linda added that she is also expecting the fair of jet fighters in this F8 event.
According to her, a collaboration event that showcases ships and aircraft at the same time like this makes it possible to save on vacation costs.
“To be able to watch the attractions of aircraft and ships in one event makes me save more money. I know that it usually only can be seen in the US,” she explained.
Tourists rely on music to stay awake for 24 hours
Culinary spot that is completed by a stage for the well-known Indonesian musicians to sing, who doesn’t want it?
At least, that is what Renita (37) thinks about it. She is from Medan, a city that is located as far as 5 hours long by plane from Makassar. Her aim to this city is none other than spending time in F8.
According to her, Makassar cuisine is not that different from her home city–they are all about seafood.
As much as she enjoys it, she is glad that she doesn’t need to worry about the calories the foods bring to her body.
It’s because the concert welcomes her to have fun and burn the calories away–only by paying Rp10.000.
Calories are gone, good times and money are not.
“Relaxed but still healthy, who doesn’t want it?” she added while letting out a chuckle.
Makassar International Eight Festival and Forum or Makassar International Event F8 is back as a five days event that is held at the platform yard of Losari Beach.
Makassar F8 is expected to start on Wednesday (7/9) and finish on Sunday (11/9).
This F8 is included in the Top Ten Kharisma Event Nusantara (KEN) 2022 Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.
While private companies act as the main organizer, the City government has given its best support for the event running well.
The line-up of musicians who will sing for the event is also one that shouldn’t be left behind. It has big names such as Ungu, Padi Reborn and Gigi.
Back to the main concept of the whole event that showcases art, the tourist can expect to see various kinds of art starting from movies, food and fruit, fashion, fiction writers and fauna.
People who want to watch live performances such as folks stage, movies and the festival main stage are charged an entrance fee of Rp5.000 to Rp10.000.
To watch the music concert, the committee has prepared a special place–the City of Makassar stage.
On that stage, well-known Indonesian artists and bands took turns showing their performances.
To get a music concert ticket, the public can buy it at the ticket box or at the entrance of zone 1 and zone 4.
The fashion show itself will be attended by designers from Singapore and Thailand.
On stage 2 or in zones 1 and 4, there will be performances by the local band Heros and art performances in the form of painting exhibitions.
Art installations and screenings of movies from several countries, including children’s fairy tales, are also here.
If you are hungry, F8 provides 72 F&B booths, eight warkop and cafes, 25 hotels and restaurants, and 45 MSME products.
There are also 15 art community booths and 10 flora and fauna community booths if you want to relax while enjoying snacks from SMEs.
