THE EDITOR – A thousand Rejang Renteng dancers enlivened the opening of the 2024 Nusa Penida Festival in Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Penida Sub-district, Klungkung Regency, Thursday (10/10/2024).
The dancers were brought from Lembongan and Jungut Batu, Klungkung. The event itself, which was held for the 7th time, was officially opened by Adyatama Tourism and Creative Economy Principal Expert of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Nia Niscaya.
“The Nusa Penida Festival will be a new spirit for the advancement of tourism and economy in Klungkung Regency, especially Nusa Penida,” said Acting Klungkung Regent I Nyoman Jendrika in a statement received by The Editor.
He also admitted that he was very proud that the festival had succeeded in becoming part of the National Event Calendar (KEN) after going through a rigorous selection from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia.
He conveyed that this year’s festival takes the theme “The Essence of Island Life”, which describes the peaceful natural beauty and unique cultural traditions, defining island life, reflecting the simplicity, harmony with nature, and sense of community that make island life special and authentic.
The Nusa Penida Festival was held with the aim of introducing tourism potential as an effort to increase tourist visits.
This was also coupled with the inaugural introduction of the Nusa Lembongan Road to Digital Island Blue Print.
Adyatama Tourism and Creative Economy Principal Expert of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Nia Niscaya highly appreciates the realization of the Nusa Penida Festival.
According to her, the Nusa Penida Festival is extraordinary because it also aims to introduce the natural beauty of the district to tourists.
“This festival, which has been included in KEN, must continue to be improved in the future to promote Nusa Penida so that tourist visits can continue to increase and Klungkung will be more advanced,” he said.

Thousands of dancers in white and yellow outfits enlivened the 2024 Nusa Penida Festival by dancing the Rejang Renteng dance.
The Rejang Renteng dance is a Balinese art dance performed exclusively by women and for women.
The dancers move in tandem using a yellow-coloured cloth tied to their waist.
