PAMEKASAN – The fulfillment of rights and protection of children has become one of the concerns of the Chairman of The House of Regional Representative of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) AA LaNyalla Mahmud Mattalitti Mattalitti.
Therefore, he condemns acts of violence against children in any form since the impact is terrific for their growth and development.
His statement came as a response to acts of violence by an officer at the Gayungan Children’s Safe Home in Surabaya against a child with the status of a Child in Conflict with the Law (ABH).
“Violence against children has an impact on psychological trauma for a certain period of time. Furthermore, it will affect the decline in the quality of the next generation,” LaNyalla said on the sidelines of recess in Pamekasan, Madura, Monday (6/3).
LaNyalla admits that he is concerned with the number of cases of violence or abuse against children that have continuously increased. This condition, he said, should not be allowed.
“There must be significant efforts to stop or at least reduce the number of cases,” he said.
Relevant parties, such as the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA), were asked to provide guidance to institutions that manage children’s safe homes, foundations, and halfway houses in order to understand tactical steps in protecting children from acts of violence.
“There needs to be a structured and systematic effort to prevent and deal with violence against children,” he said.
“Children, especially those who are in trouble with the law or are orphans, need protection. Hence, their security and safety must be guaranteed wherever they are,” said the Senator from East Java.
He also encouraged the police to act decisively against managers and administrators who commit violence. This action cannot be tolerated.
“Legal efforts must be carried out strictly against anyone who commits violence against children. So that there will be a deterrent effect in the future,” he said.
It is reported that a child with the status of a Child Against the Law (ABH) with the initials R (17) was allegedly tortured by a guard officer at the Gayungan Shelter in Surabaya or the Children’s Safe Home, East Java. The victim was allegedly beaten and his eyes smeared with balm.
