The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy’s team met Acting Banyuwangi Regent Sugirah to finalize the flight opening scheme on Friday (25/10/2024). Also present at the meeting were representatives of PT Tjendana Mandra Sakti (TMS), the flight service provider company.

Acting Regent Sugirah stated that he was ready to support the flight opening plan. According to him, this will have a big impact on the regional economy, and the development of regional tourism.

“This will bring great benefits to the region. The arrival of foreign tourists will surely bring economic benefits. This is also very possible considering that there is already an Immigration Office in Banyuwangi which will facilitate immigration matters,” he said.

Nusantara Tourism Marketing Director of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Dwi Marhen Yono revealed that the China-Banyuwangi flight is planned to use a charter flight.

“We feel optimistic that this route will be of interest to Chinese tourists, especially since there are already many Chinese and Taiwanese tourists to Bali. With this 3B concept, we hope it will add value to national tourism, so they can go to Banyuwangi and Bali,” he said.

The Ministry, Marhen added, will try to make this flight happen in the near future. He is optimistic that this tour package will be an attractive magnet for foreign tourists, including China and Taiwan.

“This is a great opportunity. I am sure this will be attractive to foreign tourists as Ijen Crater is included in the top of mind of Chinese tourists,” he said.

Meanwhile, a representative of PT Tjendana Mandra Sakti, Arifin, said his company used to serve an average of 360,000 tourists per year from China and Taiwan to Bali before the pandemic. Seeing the potential of Banyuwangi, Arifin targets to divert around 20,000 tourists to land in Banyuwangi.

“Apart from the China-Banyuwangi route, we also plan to open a direct Taiwan-Banyuwangi route. We just need to match the slots. This will be realized as soon as possible,” he said.
