MAKASSAR – Makassar City as one of the tourist destinations in South Sulawesi has many attractions, such as maritime potential, various traditional culinary, and ethnic culture.

It means many interesting places that must be visited during a visit here. Are you one of the tourists who want to enjoy the beauty of Makassar City, but don’t know which mode of transportation can be used to get around?

If so, don’t worry!

Makassar Mayor Mohammad Ramdhan Pomanto, familiarly known as Danny Pomanto, has prepared various modes of public transportation for tourists and guests who want to enjoy the beauty of the city.

To make it even better, they are environmentally friendly and inexpensive. So, what are they?

Pete-pete

According to the Makassar City Government website, makassarkota.go.id, it is known that the pete-pete is one of the motorized public transport vehicles in the city.

Its model is the same as in general public transportation in other big cities in the form of microbus cars.

In data released by the Makassar City Transportation Service, it is known that there were around 1,101 Pete-pete units in the field within the Makassar City area in 2021.

All of them operate every day by serving 14 routes within the city.

This vehicle is one of the mainstays of Makassar residents in traveling within the city, especially for long routes.

It’s relatively easy to find either day or night. Far and near, you only need to pay as much as IDR8,500 one way.

Trans Mamminasata

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) or Trans Mamminasata mass transportation buses have been operated by the Perum Damri Makassar since mid 2015.

There are currently around 200 trans mamminasata units in four corridors, with more corridors will soon be built.

Trans Mamminasata can be an alternative choice to enjoy the scenery in the city with a comfortable atmosphere.

This bus can accommodate 70 people and is equipped with a number of facilities such as air conditioning and WiFi. The fare is only IDR5,000 per corridor.

Pedicab

Makassar City Government makes pedicabs as a means of tourist transportation.

As a traditional means, pedicabs are rarely found in the city. This transportation is now more commonly found around tourist and entertainment areas such as Losari Beach and its surroundings.

This vehicle is suitable for taking short trips slowly, while enjoying the surrounding atmosphere. About the pricing, please negotiate it directly with the pedals.

Bentor

Bentor or motorized pedicab can be regarded as an evolution of the pedicab.

The fundamental change is that the steering gear is no longer pedaled, but with a motorcycle. What remains of the pedicab is the passenger compartment at the front.

The higher speed slowly makes the bump replace the existence of the pedicab.

Bentor is also suitable for short trips over short distances. The Makassar City Government prohibits it from operating on main or protocol roads.

Taxi

There are many choices of taxi services in Makassar. Just call the central number, the driver will come to pick you up and take you to your destination.

This vehicle is suitable for passengers who want practical transportation with comfort and privacy, because they are not limited by routes or corridors.

The price itself is more suitable for the middle to upper economy class.

Ojol

Ojek (motorcycle) are generally found close to residential areas. However, recently there have been many ojol or ojek online (online motorcycle taxi services). You can order it via mobile device.

The cost of an ojol usually depends on the distance traveled.

Online motorcycle taxis are currently transforming into a very reliable means of citizen mobility due to the presence of several ojol operators operating in Makassar City.

Rent a car or motorbike

By renting a vehicle, you can move around the city more freely.

The vehicle rental business has been widely spread in Makassar with rates per day or per week.

For motorbikes, the rental price is around IDR80,000 per day. The car is usually IDR250,000 to IDR 300,000.

Motorboat

Motor boats are used to support the mobility of island communities within the Makassar City area which has 14 islands.

Motorboats can be the main choice to support the mobility of both people and goods and can be used as a means to reach marine tourism destinations.
