Head of Sambirejo Village: Thanks to P3PD Training, Village Communities Are No Longer Just Spectators When Investors Come In

Must read

THE EDITOR – The Head of Sambirejo Village Wahyu Nugroho said that his villagers are no longer just spectators when investors come in because he managed to develop a new spatial design that involves the community in village development.

To The Editor, Wahyu said that he came up with the new spatial design after participating in the Village Governance and Development Strengthening Programme (P3PD) training at the end of 2023.

The first thing he did in early 2024 was to coordinate with the authorities to draw the village boundaries. The aim was to find out what potential Sambirejo Village has.

“After participating in the P3PD training, I coordinated with the head of the next village to map the boundaries that we would later digitalise,” Wahyu said.

The results of the mapping, he continued, will be used as a benchmark to develop a ‘master plan’ for village development.

Wahyu admitted that this method had never occurred to him before. Thanks to the P3PD training, he added, his village will soon have a digital village boundary map in the future.

“We know the geographical conditions. When we know the area, we also know the condition of the land, whether it is suitable for livestock, agriculture, tourism, and so on,” Wahyu said.

It’s not only that. From the P3PD training, Wahyu also started to plan to compile data on investors who want to enter Sambirejo Village.

Sambirejo Village is famous for its beautiful temples. Among them are Ijo Temple, Barong Temple, Nigiri Temple, and Duwung Temple, to Sumur Bandung.

This has caught the attention of the investors and got them interested in building their businesses in the village.

“When the village has independent planning, investment will come in,” he said.

COORDINATING WITH THE SPATIAL PLANNING OFFICE AFTER PARTICIPATING IN P3PD TRAINING

Wahyu said that another thing he did after the P3PD training was to coordinate with the Yogyakarta Provincial Spatial Planning Office.

He proposed a new Sambirejo Village spatial design to the relevant office that would be adjusted to the provincial and regional development plans.

“So far there has been none because we don’t know how to do it,” he said.

“Even though we have thought about it, we don’t have the knowledge. We don’t have the knowledge of mapping. We don’t know what regulations we have to follow from the central government to the district government,” he said.

This understanding, Wahyu said, gives him knowledge that is very important in the future for the development of his village.

This includes P3PD knowledge so that the village community is not just a spectator when there is development.

“When an investor wants to come in, the investor must follow village rules as we have a village plan,” he said.
