Father Andreas: Didik Nini Thowok is A Wheat that Grows in the Middle of Weeds

Must read

THE EDITOR – Didik Nini Thowok is like wheat growing in the middle of weeds. That’s what Father Andreas Adhi Prasetyo from Maria Ratu Damai Church in Banyuwangi said when asked his opinion about the Maestro who has been in the dance world for more than 50 years.

“For me, Mr. Didik is a wheat that grows in the middle of a weed. What makes him who he is today is because he grew up with the weeds,” he said during an exclusive interview with The Editor a while ago.

Father Andreas’ analogy is formed after seeing Didik Nini Thowok had to live and start his career with people who did not always support him.

People who were jealous and did not support the Maestro’s success, according to Father Andreas, actually made him an internationally recognised artist.

“That challenge is what makes Mr. Didik who he is today. This is the real Didik Nini Thowok, tough in faith, tough in everything,” he said.

To honour the Maestro’s work, Father Andreas specially prepared a remarkable dance titled ‘Maaf’ (Apology) to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Didik Nini Thowok’s Work in December 2024.

This piece is dedicated to appreciate and honour Didik Nini Thowok’s courage in all of his work.

Didik Nini Thowok is a very religious artist. Father Andreas said this fact because while knowing him, the Maestro always asks for blessings before performing his work.

“I salute him. Every time he wants to perform his arts, his intention is carried out in prayer. Even through video calls from afar, prayer is a blessing. He never leaves the Almighty behind in his work,” he said.

“Being Didik Nini Thowok is also not easy, right? So, something like this is extraordinary,” he said.

DIDIK NINI THOWOK IS ABLE TO ACCEPT THE WEEDS IN HIS LIFE

Because of Didik Nini Thowok’s patience and tenacity, he continued, the Maestro finally accepted the weeds.

During his career, Didik Nini Thowok also received a lot of support amongst the hostilities that came his way.

The story of pain in his career, said Father Andreas, was always carried in prayer in order to be able to have divine strength to face the weeds that wanted to destroy his career.

“There must be divine power to fight it. That way, he keeps going because of Him (God),” he said.

“(Didik Nini Thowok) said that what he did was for the good of others, so he kept going. (So) he must ask permission from God,” he added.

Even though there are many weeds, aka obstacles, he continued, Didik Nini Thowok, who is likened to wheat, can still grow well.
