“This is a manifestation of the regency government’s commitment to provide equal access to education for local youths,” said Ipuk.

Since 2013, the Banyuwangi Regency Government has actualized inclusive schools that are friendly to children with disabilities. To date, all public schools from early childhood education to senior high school are inclusive.

The regency government has also launched Si-Denakwangi (Banyuwangi Regency Special Needs Child Identification Application) innovation. This application is used to detect the type of disability of students with special needs.

With this identification, the services and learning applied by special assistance teachers (GPK) are truly appropriate according to the conditions of students with special needs. Hopefully, this can maximize their achievements.

Not only in the education sector, the district government also continues to strive to fulfil disability rights in various other fields. For example, the fulfilment of disability facilities in public places to the opening of opportunities in the world of work.

“The district government also routinely holds discussions for children and children with disabilities to capture their aspirations to be used as material for the formulation of regional policies. Through this meeting, we hope that their aspirations can be accommodated,” said Ipuk.

These schools are accompanied by 11 special schools (SLB) that act as consultants. There are 250 special assistant teachers (GPK).

“We periodically provide technical guidance to increase their capacity. So that they can carry out their duties well in bridging the learning difficulties of children with disabilities in inclusive schools,” said Bramuda.

Prior to the main event, she added, the Kita Bisa Festival began with various activities that accommodate the creativity and potential of children with special needs.
